Minoxidil is the FDA approved generic form of the brand Rogaine used topically to stimulate the growth of hair on the scalp. Originally, Minoxildil was an oral drug used to treat high blood pressure when it was discovered that hair growth was a side effect. In the 1980's the UpJohn Corporation developed Rogaine and changed forever the lives of Alopecia sufferers. If a person uses minoxidil to aid in hair regrowth, and then stops taking the drug, hair growth will cease.

To get the most out of any Minoxadil product like Rogaine, it’s important to apply it correctly, twice a day, every day. Here are a few things you can expect as you begin your treatment. Within the first few weeks, you may experience more hair loss than usual. This is temporary and an expected part of the treatment process. If this hair loss continues after 6 weeks , talk to your doctor. Early hair regrowth is soft and colorless, like peach fuzz; however, with continued use, new hairs should be the same color and thickness as your other hair.
